At the end of the20´s, Alfonso Claros, a young writer educated in France, arrives by train to Uyuni, a mining village in the midst of the Bolivian plateau. Alfonso begins a passionate affair with the beautiful Claudina, a sensual mestiza nicknamed “Misqui Simi” (sweet lips in quechua). However, their relationship rapidly succumbs to the prevalent class prejudice. Rebuffed, Claudina then chooses Joaquin, Alfonso´s best friend, as her next lover and traps him a net of destructive passion.Uyuni is also the haven of Clota, a Chilean woman in her fifties who runs the village brothel and soon becomes Alfonso’s friend and confidant. Genaro, a passionate prospector, persuades Alfonso to join him in a search for a gold vein in the heart of the mountain. This quest proves to be a turning point in the fates of both men.Clota and Claudina unleash the rage and intolerance of the priest and some local women whose moralizing campaign has a profound effect upon Alfonso, who decides to leave Uyuni forever.
Twenty years later, the international train makes a stopover at the Uyuni Station. Alfonso, now a successful man, is passing through with his family on his way to France to serve as the Bolivian Ambassador. A chance encounter with Joaquín, a ghost of his past, only deepens the distance between them as he recalls the woman of the sweet lips. Nominated for Best Film, Cartagena Film Festival, 2008.
