DEAR CAMILO
Costa Rica
Camilo Mejia was the first soldier in the U.S. Army who refused to return to the war in Iraq and declared himself a conscientious objector. He denounced the atrocities and the reasons for the war and was sentenced to one year of prison by a military court. The documentary Dear Camilo tells the story of this young man of both Nicaraguan and Costa Rican nationalities, from the perspective of his teenage friends. Son of singer-songwriter Carlos Mejía Godoy and a family who participated in the Sandinista revolution, Camilo is now a symbol of the antiwar movement in the United States.
