    Welcome

Heart is what guides path finders and tradition-breakers to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness. And with 25 free movie screenings, the 2010 DC Latin American Film Showcase with Portugal and Spain, presented by the Ibero-American Cultural Attaches Association, reminds Washington D.C. metro area film lovers about the power of dreams and determination against all odds. With its increasing popularity -- particularly among DC’s 35-and-under crowd -- this event showcases contemporary cinematography from nearly twenty countries and includes various handpicked award-winning films.

In the same way that class and culture converge in Washington, D.C. to tell rich stories about the dreams and determination of its people, this year’s film series does too through nihilistic dramas, gritty thrillers, environmentalist documentaries, and romantic comedies -- even short films. So whether local movie enthusiasts want their hearts lightened by Latin American music, a fresh perspective about the immigration debate, or inspiration to create and take advantage of new opportunities, this 2010 film showcase promises to satisfy.

Film series are always exciting times for any city. They bring together the hearts of people -- with no regard for where they came from, nor what traditions they have broken or paths they have followed to arrive where they are. Because the Ibero-American Cultural Attaches Association understands this fundamental truth, we believe the Latin American Film Showcase with Portugal and Spain is one tradition that Washington, D.C. residents won’t break.
